Summer Internship Opportunities Multiple opportunities are available. Work location will vary per position. Positions will be launched over the next 4-5 weeks and will be open until filled.  12 week program runs from 5/28-8/16.  Undergraduate pay rates are $15 per hour. Production Notes Paper recycling is reprocessing waste paper fibers back into a usable paper product. Soy ink is a helpful component in paper recycling. It helps in this process because the soy ink can be removed more easily than regular ink can be taken out of paper during the de-inking process of recycling. This allows the recycled paper to have less damage to its paper fibers and have a brighter appearance. The waste that is left from the soy ink during the de-inking process is not hazardous and it can be treated easily through the development on modern processes.

Joint science academies’ statement: Global response to climate change Climate change is real There will always be uncertainty in understanding a system as complex as the world’s climate. However there is now strong evidence that significant global warming is occurring1. The evidence comes from direct measurements of rising surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures and from phenomena such as increases in average global sea levels, retreating glaciers, and changes to many physical and biological systems. It is likely that most of the warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities (IPCC 2001)2. This warming has already led to changes in the Earth's climate. The existence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is vital to life on Earth – in their absence average temperatures would be about 30 centigrade degrees lower than they are today. But human activities are now causing atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases – including carbon dioxide, methane, tropospheric ozone, and nitrous oxide – to rise well above pre-industrial levels. Carbon dioxide levels have increased from 280 ppm in 1750 to over 375 ppm today – higher than any previous levels that can be reliably measured (i.e. in the last 420,000 years). Increasing greenhouse gases are causing temperatures to rise; the Earth’s surface warmed by approximately 0.6 centigrade degrees over the twentieth century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projected that the average global surface temperatures will continue to increase to between 1.4 centigrade degrees and 5.8 centigrade degrees above 1990 levels, by 2100.

The challenge is to understand the natural changes in the climate and whether humans are contributing significantly to those changes. The larger challenge is to separate the politics from the discussion of the science, in order to better understand the state of knowledge of climate change science. Today, even saying there is scientific disagreement over global warming is itself controversial. But anyone who pays even cursory attention to the issue understands that scientists vigorously disagree over whether human activities are responsible for global warming, or whether those activities will precipitate apocalyptic natural disasters. It is extremely important for the future of this country that the facts and the science get a fair hearing. Without proper knowledge and understanding, alarmists will scare the country into enacting their ultimate goal: making energy suppression, in the form of harmful mandatory restrictions on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions, the official policy of the United States. Such a policy would induce serious economic harm, especially for low income and minority populations. Energy suppression, as official government and nonpartisan private analyses have amply confirmed, means higher prices for food, medical care, and electricity, as well as massive job losses and drastic reductions in gross domestic...

Delaware Higher Education Office As part of the Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) works to ensure that postsecondary education is accessible and affordable for Delaware residents by providing information and financial assistance to students and their families. We administer 23 state-sponsored financial aid programs, which include grants, scholarships, regional contracts, and professional incentive programs. Last year, 2,114 Delaware residents were awarded $4,252,800 through these programs. As a member of the Southern Regional Education board, Delaware is able to provide additional tuition savings for its residents through the Academic Common Market (ACM), a tuition-savings agreement among 15 southern states. ACM students attending college last year saved an average of $12,800 in tuition costs, totaling more than $1,340,000 in savings for the year. Since joining SREB in 1998, Delaware families have saved over $11,600,000 through the ACM program. To increase educational opportunities for Delawareans, DHEO works with state officials to develop new financial assistance programs.
