JAVA Issues with DTS Logins EFENSE RAVEL

Background The web browser uses Oracle’s Java software to launch the Gradkell Systems Universal WebSigner JAVA applet, which enables your Common Access Card (CAC) to access DTS. Due to increased security within JAVA, outdated versions of JAVA will be unable to launch the Universal WebSigner applet (as well as many other applets for other websites) without lowering JAVA’s security. Check with your organization’s IT office for specific guidance. The Travel Assistance Center offers two potential workarounds, if applicable. Workarounds First, check the version installed on your workstation. Go to Control Panel, Java, and click the “About” button. The version will be displayed. Workstations using older versions of Java 7 (usually update 25) have two options. • Option 1: Upgrade to the latest version of JAVA from www.java.com. o Workstations using the latest version of JAVA will continually get error messages about whether to let the DBsign Universal WebSigner applet run but will be allowed to login to DTS. o Pay close attention to the warnings that appear and answer accordingly so the DBsign Universal WebSigner is not blocked and allowed to run. Depending on your operating system and version of Internet Explorer, the error messages may vary (see figure below.) Corliss Review Group: This is what the new reversible USB 3.1 cable looks like

In December last year the technology consortium responsible for the USB standard announced that the next generation of connectors would be entirely reversible – now the first picture of the new plug has appeared online. As expected, the new design looks pretty much identical to Apple’s Lightning connector - a proprietary standard which is also reversible and appears on the latest iPhones and iPads. The new USB 3.1 Type-C is similar in size to the current Micro USB design used to charge most small gadgets and will break computability with current ports. The designs are not expected to be finalized until July and it will take many months more before manufacturers start to introduce the new Type-C to their products. This latest update to the most widely accepted connector in the tech world will offer increased bandwidths of up to 10Gbps but for most of the clearest advantage will never having to fiddle with getting our USB plugs the right way round.

Fraud newsletter aug 2009.indd - Hill Dickinson

Summer 2009 fraud case update Cases Yasar Mahmood -vDavid Thackrah Claim no: 8PF00760 Leeds County Court Background The claimant, Yasar Mahmood, claimed damages for personal injury, hire charges, and recovery and storage charges out of an accident which occurred at a roundabout on Junction 39 of the M1 motorway. The claimant stated his vehicle was leaving the roundabout when he was “spooked” by an Audi ahead when it suddenly changed direction causing the claimant to brake sharply. As a result, the defendant, Mr Thackrah, collided with the rear of his vehicle. Thackrah claimed that the accident had been caused deliberately by the claimant who slammed on his brakes in order to provoke a collision. A defence was lodged which alleged that the collision had been caused deliberately by the claimant, acting in conjunction with the driver of the Audi, who had deliberately slammed on his brakes with the sole purpose of facilitating a collision. The defendant was shown a series of images of the claimant vehicle in its post accident condition and was able to confirm that the damage displayed with the exception of one minor scrape in the middle of the bumper had not been caused by the collision...
