The correct supply of water and nutrients is important in hydroponic growing systems in order to use water efﬁciently, avoid stress situations, and control production. The present study was conducted to evaluate two irrigation scheduling techniques for hydroponic tomato production in Navarra, northern Spain, related to the crop water requirements. The results show that although daily over-irrigation was applied (45.7% of drainage), 18% of the total yield (35 kg m−2 ) was affected by blossom-end rot problems, due to water stress suffered by the crop. Irrigation scheduling by time clock was not ﬂexible enough to satisfy the varying crop water requirements through the day and during the season. With constant irrigation intervals and volumes, water and fertilisers were wasted during the morning (excessive irrigation) whereas during the afternoon, the plants suffered water stress. Irrigation scheduling by radiation method at a level of 0.81 MJ m−2 , with some supplementary time clock irrigation applications during the hours of darkness (in order to keep the growing medium wet), appeared to be a good solution. APPLICATIONS The LM1949 linear integrated circuit serves as an excellent control of fuel injector drive circuitry in modern automotive systems. The IC is designed to control an external power NPN Darlington transistor that drives the high current injector solenoid. The current required to open a solenoid is several times greater than the current necessary to merely hold it open; therefore, the LM1949, by directly sensing the actual solenoid current, initially saturates the driver until the “peak” injector current is four times that of the idle or “holding” current (Figure 19–Figure 22). This guarantees opening of the injector. The current is then automatically reduced to the sufficient holding level for the duration of the input pulse. In this way, the total power consumed by the system is dramatically reduced. Also, a higher degree of correlation of fuel to the input voltage pulse (or duty cycle) is achieved, since opening and closing delays of the solenoid will be reduced.
In response to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy and emissions regulations, fuel injection systems replaced carburetors in new vehicles in the 1980s. Fuel injectors allow more precise control of fuel than carburetors, improving fuel efficiency and minimizing emissions. However, in order to work efficiently, they must be kept clean. Because performance suffers as fuel injectors become dirty, the U.S. government mandated in the mid-1990s that all gasoline sold in the U.S. be formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives to help keep engines clean and emissions under control. However, it takes a very low level of additive to pass the tests, and most gasoline on the market contains as little as 123 parts per million (ppm) of additive. The low levels of detergent additives in modern gasoline allow deposits to build up on critical fuel system components, and most motorists are unaware of how dirty the insides of their engines are. AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is an effective one-tank, total fuel system cleaner. More potent than other fuel additives on the market, P.i. effectively cleans everything the fuel touches, including both port and direct fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers, in only one single tank of gasoline, removing the deposits that have built up over thousands of miles. Removing engine deposits with P.i. effectively improves fuel economy, reduces emissions, restores power, performance and acceleration, reduces octane requirements, increases engine life and reduces maintenance costs.
