Buying a new computer can be a stressful endeavor. There are too many models with a seemingly infinite number of configuration options. Product lines are constantly in flux, and usually when you finally start to process all the information, a new model is released and everything changes. Getting a new Mac doesn't have to be a headache or takes months of research. The aim of this book is to simply help you pick the best Mac for your needs while showing you how to save a few hundred dollars on your purchase. And it's not going to take 300 pages like some other computer books. Here's a breakdown of what I'll cover. In Part 1, I'll talk about the different types of Mac users and try to help you decide which user category best describes how you plan to use your Mac. We'll also go over the five types of Mac models and explain some of the specifications that differentiate the models. By the end of this section you should be on your way to knowing exactly which Mac you want to buy. In Part 2, I'll talk about where to buy your Mac. Believe it or not, there are a slew of buying options that are less expensive than purchasing directly from the Apple Store! This section will provide you with the resources to get the best price available for your Mac. In Part 3, I'll talk about all the extras that go into a Mac purchase such as upgrading RAM, buying an AppleCare Protection Plan, or deciding which software you need and where to buy it. I'll also talk about buying an iPad. The goal of this section is to help you make smart decisions relating to all the additional expenses that you might include with your Mac purchase.

Society’s Grand Challenges Insights from Psychological Science As a society, we face many challenges, and we depend on science to help. Whether we seek to halt global climate change, cure devastating diseases, reduce crime, end poverty, diminish health disparities, or achieve vitality in old age, advances in modern science are expected to help. The science of psychology contributes to deeper understanding of these and many other societal challenges. The American Psychological Association is devoting significant resources and energy to bringing the best of psychological science to the forefront. In partnership with other fields of science, solutions will be found. This booklet is one in a series, examining the insights of psychological science into challenges facing society. Each booklet focuses on a key challenge, provides a sampling of what we currently know, and suggests promising avenues for future research. The published work of scientists is cited, so that readers can learn more on their own. We indeed face many challenges, and together we can solve them! Alan E. Kazdin 2008 President American Psychological Association 2 3 GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE Most scientists recognize that human behavior is the main cause of today’s climate crisis. Understanding that behavior, and learning how to change it, is one of our best hopes for a solution. Whether the goal is to reduce carbon emissions or to help vulnerable populations deal with rising sea levels and changing weather patterns, it is clear that values, beliefs, thoughts, and social relationships are key. According to the 2007 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, however, human behavior is one of the least well understood components of the climate system. That is where the science of psychology can help. By itself, psychology cannot stop global warming or deal entirely with its consequences. Other scientific disciplines provide the expertise to model climate change, build more efficient power plants, and predict the impact of carbon taxes on economic development. What psychology can provide is an e x pl a nat ion for why people choose to i nst a l l energ yef f icient appl ia nces, reduce gasoline consumption or support government policies aimed at addressing climate change — and why, despite the best of intentions, they often do not.
1340cm3 in-line 4-cylinder fuel-injected, liquid-cooled DOHC engine built to deliver a broad wave of torque for effortless acceleration. Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) serves as back-torque-limiting system for smooth downshifts and also contributes to a light clutch pull. U-shaped cutouts in the cylinder-bore sides allow air below descending pistons to escape to adjacent cylinders to reduce internal pumping pressure and mechanical power losses. Advanced aerodynamics offering superb wind protection both for normal and completely tucked-in seating positions. Lightweight titanium valves allow use of light valve springs and high lift while maintaining accurate valve control. Iridium spark plugs produce more complete combustion. Curved radiator with a compact, dense-core design and engine-management-computer-controlled two ring-type electric fans mounted on the rear of the radiator, increasing the control accuracy and keeping engine temperature stable. Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) fuel injection results in improved power delivery and a more linear response. This system uses engine-computer-operated secondary valves to maintain optimum intake-air velocity for maximum combustion efficiency. Two 12-hole fine-spray injectors on each throttle body improve fuel atomization for better combustion efficiency and while reducing fuel consumption. Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) enables the rider to choose from three different engine power characteristics according to personal preference.
