The Cal Poly VPN (Virtual Private Network) – Apple iOS 6 or newer To protect Cal Poly data and the campus network – while improving reliability and security of offcampus, remote access network connections – Cal Poly offers a Virtual Private Network (VPN). This service is available to faculty and staff. Getting Started A Cal Poly VPN connection requires the following: - A current, supported operating system o Apple 10.7 or newer o Apple iOS 6 o Windows 7 - A current, supported Web browser o Internet Explorer 9 o Firefox 16 or newer o Safari 6 - Up-to-date security and Java patches - Administrative access or “elevated rights” to install software and complete configuration settings. Please check with your LAN Coordinator before configuring the Cal Poly VPN on a Cal Poly computer. The process is outlined in this Step 1-2-3 guide for Apple iOS 6 or newer. Excel 2010 Formulas and Functions One of Excel's most useful features is that it allows users to create custom formulas to perform calculations on their data. Excel also contains built-in formulas called functions that make it easy to perform common calculations on data. Here you will find step by step tutorials, tips and shortcuts on how to use formulas and the common and less common functions available in Excel. Formula Basics Formulas in Microsoft Excel begin with an equal sign. The equal sign tells Excel that the succeeding characters constitute a formula. If you don't enter the equal sign, Excel will treat your entry as text and the calculation will fail. To show how formulas work, we'll begin with a simple exercise by selecting blank cell A1. Then type =5+5, and press Enter. Excel performs the calculation and produces a result of 10 in cell A1. Notice the formula bar shows the formula you just typed. What appears in the cell is the result; what appears in the formula bar is the underlying value, which is a formula in this case.

Overview of Excel Microsoft Excel 2010 is a powerful tool you can use to create and format spreadsheets, create graphs to visually display data, write formulas to calculate mathematical equations, and analyze and share information to make more informed decisions. The Font Group on the Home Tab The Font group on the Home tab contains basic text and cell formatting tools. Change font size; increase or decrease font size. Change the color of the text. Change font type. Add a background color to the cell. Bold, underline, or italicize text. Add a cell border. The cell border tool offers many options for adding borders. The cell border, background color, and text color buttons ‘remember’ the most recent selection made. For example, if the last cell border you selected was a Thick Box Border, you can just click the cell border button to assign another cell with that border (without having to reselect it from the dropdown list). Align text to the top, middle, or bottom of a cell. Rotate text within a cell. Wrap text within a cell. Merge the selected cells into one large cell and center the text (for example, for a title ). Align text to the left, center, or right within a cell. Increase or decrease the margin between the border and the text within a cell. Format Painter The Format Painter tool allows you to copy the format of a cell (not the contents, just the formatting) and apply it to other cells. 1. To use the Format Painter, select the cell(s) with the desired formatting. 2. Click the Format Painter button in the Clipboard group of the Home tab.
