The study aimed to discover answers pertaining to process of intervention and perception based upon a 36 item questionnaire put forth to 40 parents having children with multiple disabilities. Children were in the mean of 9.9 years and attended NIEPMD for 2.18 years; most frequent (48%) associated conditions were Cerebral Palsy along with mental retardation. The mean age of suspicion by parents was at 24.2months followed by doctor visit by 27.2 months and initiation of rehabilitation by 56.14 months. The core concern for 80% parents was to develop motor and speech skills, although the majority (55%) had neglected speech therapy. Clients preferred a transdisclipinary approach (68%) over the present multidisciplinary approach. Acceptance of the child’s condition is a crucial, 56% parents took an average of 8.03years to accept their child’s disability followed by 28% who were in the bargaining stage.
This paper aims at presenting the prototype for Braill-e-Book, a portable and user-friendly device that converts the large ocean of e-knowledge into the Braille format for the blind to access easily. The Braill-e-Book makes use of USB flash drives that contain several books in text format. It has a speech recognition system using which the user can search for the file name or its author, which when selected will be displayed on a refreshable display. Furthermore, the Braill-e-Book is equipped with the audio notifications to enable the user to navigate through the entire process easily. It is an innovative upgrade to the presently available electronic Braille display devices which are either not portable or have a PC dependency.
This paper presents the design of different filtering techniques for the Neuro-Biomedical signals in single electrode EEG collected Brainstem Speech Evoked Potentials data of Audiology for the Signal-to-Noise Ratio performance evaluations. We have designed Yule-Walk multiband filter, Cascaded Yule-Walk-Comb-Peak filter; conventional Wavelet transform filters of Daubechies, Symlet, Coiflet Wavelets for these Auditory Brainstem Responses. In addition we have designed a Translation-Invariant (TI) Wavelet estimation filtering technique which is highly useful. In our research the idea of Cascaded Yule-Walk-Comb-Peak filter is giving us a considerable improvement in SNR over Yule-Walk filter; and the conventional wavelets are performing far better that too specifically Daubechies wavelets are performing better than all. The TI wavelets technique is performing exceptionally well and better than conventional wavelets.
The spread of World Englishes has generated a need for maximizing intelligibility in speech discourse. Yet in current pedagogy teaching pronunciation is a much neglected area. In the Sri Lankan context deviations from Standard Sri Lankan English pronunciation, especially in segmental phonology, results in impairing intelligibility even amongst the local interlocutors. Utilizing the limited technology available this study constructs a short term Action Plan based on the tenets of cooperative and collaborative learning to address two selected pronunciation deviations: the nondifferentiation between /ʃ/ and /s/ and confusion of /p/ and /f/ in 20 undergraduate users of learner English. The Action Plan informs practitioners of Teaching English as a Second Language on implementing short courses which benefit learners who deviate from inner circle pronunciation.

Sample Research Project in the Context of a Freshman Writing Course Prepared by Steve Tollefson, College Writing Programs, UC Berkeley, 2005 Includes Final Research Paper, Annotated Bibliography and Reflection on the Process Internalizing Dead Kings and Ambiguous Art Marian Feldman has been a member of the UC Berkeley faculty for the last seven years and is currently Assistant Professor in the Near Eastern Studies Department. She has published two articles, two reviews, and is in the editing process of her first book. The publications reveal Feldman’s process of internalizing her academic interests by the stylistic differences between the articles. In her professorial career thus far, Feldman has donned various roles as art historian, archaeologist, professor and writer. This paper provides insight as to how Feldman’s personality and different aspects show through in her writing and by changes in her writing over the course of her publishing career thus far. As I enter my first college class, my attention goes to Professor Feldman, a tall, slender woman in a loose pearl blouse with black dress pants. The combination of her graceful stance and scholarly presence distinguishes her already from the chaos of the lecture room. The calm demeanor spreads through the room as she gradually turns the lights down low, signaling the beginning of lecture, and gives life to the art historian’s companion, the slide projector. Her slow and steady speech is punctuated by inflections at nearly every other word and reflects her scholarly presence. She picks her words carefully and you can sense the moment’s thought before each. Her precisely chosen words make each one valuable as I frantically try to catch them all. Feldman incorporates her elevated vocabulary in daily speech and lecture, requiring that I form my own vocabulary list: mélange, koine, cache, lingua franca, etc.
