Evaluating irrigation scheduling of hydroponic tomato in Navarra ...

The correct supply of water and nutrients is important in hydroponic growing systems in order to use water efficiently, avoid stress situations, and control production. The present study was conducted to evaluate two irrigation scheduling techniques for hydroponic tomato production in Navarra, northern Spain, related to the crop water requirements. The results show that although daily over-irrigation was applied (45.7% of drainage), 18% of the total yield (35 kg m−2 ) was affected by blossom-end rot problems, due to water stress suffered by the crop. Irrigation scheduling by time clock was not flexible enough to satisfy the varying crop water requirements through the day and during the season. With constant irrigation intervals and volumes, water and fertilisers were wasted during the morning (excessive irrigation) whereas during the afternoon, the plants suffered water stress. Irrigation scheduling by radiation method at a level of 0.81 MJ m−2 , with some supplementary time clock irrigation applications during the hours of darkness (in order to keep the growing medium wet), appeared to be a good solution. Healing Gardens: Creating Places for Restoration, Meditation, and Sanctuary What are the defining characteristics that make a healing garden? Keywords: healing gardens, restoration gardens, sanctuary gardens A thesis Prepared by Annalisa Gartman Vapaa Committee Chair: Dr. Margaret Bryant Committee Member: Brian Katen Committee Member: Bill Mills Defense Date: April 29, 2002 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University College of Architecture and Urban Studies Master’s of Landscape Architecture Abstract The “healing garden” is an evolving concept that is gaining popularity today. What is a healing garden? Why is one garden called a healing garden and not another? How is a healing garden defined? In what way are gardens healing? This thesis describes the ways in which healing gardens are beneficial in healthcare and residential settings. A set of guidelines for the design of healing gardens is created as a result of research findings as well as three design projects that are illustrated in the document.

Giving in the Aftermath of 9/11 - Foundation Center

The Foundation Center have focused on the ultimate uses and beneficiaries of the donations raised by the relief funds from all sources, and we have issued a comprehensive report on their funding activities and practices.1 While the scope of our 9/11-related efforts has expanded, we have continued to track the foundation and corporate response. Specifically, in the latest year we have added hundreds of new donors to our 9/11 database and thousands of individual gifts. This report provides an overview of 9/11 giving by institutional donors based on data compiled through September 2003, updating and expanding on the findings presented in our November 2002 report.2 The latest information was drawn primarily from 2001 and 2002 annual reports provided by foundation and corporate donors and from data reported by private foundations in their Form 990-PF tax returns. Information also comes from grantmaker news releases and Web sites and donor lists compiled by leading recipients, such as the September 11th Fund of the United Way of New York and the New York Community Trust and the American Red Cross.

Design of All Digital FM Receiver Circuit - OpenCores

1. Introduction The design of the All Digital FM Receiver circuit in this project uses Phase Locked Loop (PLL) as the main core. The task of the PLL is to maintain coherence between the input (modulated) signal frequency, ωi and the respective output frequency, ωo via phase comparison. This self-correcting ability of the system also allows the PLL to track the frequency changes of the input signal once it is locked. Frequency modulated input signal is assumed as a series of numerical values (digital signal) via 8-bit of analog to digital conversion (ADC) circuit. The FM Receiver gets the 8 bit signal every clock cycle and outputs the demodulated signal. The All Digital FM Receiver circuit is designed using VHDL, then simulated and synthesized using ModelSim SE 6 simulator and Xilinx ISE 6.3i, respectively. FPGA implementation also provided, here we use Virtex2 device. The real measurement is done using ChipScope Pro 6.3i. 2. Architecture Description The system of All Digital FM Receiver consists of a digital PLL cascaded with digital low pass filter. The block diagram of system is shown in Fig. 1.

The Forex Market Tutorial - Investopedia

Introduction Foreign exchange (forex or FX for short) is one of the most exciting, fast-paced markets around. Until recently, trading in the forex market had been the domain of large financial institutions, corporations, central banks, hedge funds and extremely wealthy individuals. The emergence of the internet has changed all of this, and now it is possible for average investors to buy and sell currencies easily with the click of a mouse. Daily currency fluctuations are usually very small. Most currency pairs move less than one cent per day, representing a less than 1% change in the value of the currency. This makes foreign exchange one of the least volatile financial markets around. Therefore, many speculators rely on the availability of enormous leverage to increase the value of potential movements. In the forex market, leverage can be as much as 250:1. Higher leverage can be extremely risky, but because of round-the-clock trading and deep liquidity, foreign exchange brokers have been able to make high leverage an industry standard in order to make the movements meaningful for FX traders.
