This research work was carried out to investigate the proximate and mineral composition of some traditional vegetables in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. These vegetables include: Talinum triangulare, Hensia crinita, Cucurbita maxima and Lasianthera africana. The vegetables were washed in potable water to remove unwanted matters and were analyzed for proximate and mineral content. All analyses were carried out in three replicates and the mean data were presented on tables using the spread sheet Microsoft Excel. Talinum triangulare had the highest protein content (56.72%) and moisture content (80.11%) but had the lowest content of ash (6.31%), crude fibre (2.96%) and carbohydrate (6.91%). Ash and crude fibre were present in low quantities in Talinum triangulare, Hensia crinita, and Lasianthera africana, except Cucurbita maxima which had the highest composition of ash (14.06%) and crude fibre (9.37%). Soybean (Glycine max) is an important vegetable oilseed crop. It is considered to be a cash crop. It is a major source of edible vegetable oils and proteins which contains about 40% protein and 20% oil. The genetic diversity was estimated among 7 varieties of Soybean using 22 RAPD primers. The RAPD marker is useful tool for assessing genetic variation and resolving cultivars identities. Among the 22 primers, 11 primers showed polymorphism.

Poultry production is a growing business sector worldwide, owing partly to its profitability and partly to being a ready and affordable source of protein requirement for man. A major problem facing poultry is disease, a state of ill health that could lead to death or poor level of performance of the affected poultry. The scope of this paper, therefore, covers the control and management of disease outbreak in poultry, focusing on the tentative diagnosis of an implicated disease through software application. The software developed, called Pathfinder, using Java programming language and MySQL, provides users, e.g. veterinarians and animal health technologists, an easier, quicker and more precise procedure for tentative diagnosis of poultry diseases.
The leaves of Ceiba pentandra (Java), Manihot esculentus (Cassava) and Abelmoschus esculentus (Okra) are consumed as vegetables in Southwestern Nigeria. The proximate and phytochemical composition of these leaves were investigated using standard procedures. Powdered dried leaves of Java, Cassava and Okra were analysed for ash, moisture, fat, fibre, protein, carbohydrate, tannins, flavonoids, phenols and ascorbic acid composition. The percentage composition result values for ash, moisture, fat, fibre, protein and carbohydrate in the leaves ranged from 15.00% - 6.30%, 0.15% - 4.85%, 9.60% - 8.40%, 25.44% - 17.55%, 21.16% - 8.65% and 41.25% - 32.65% respectively. Tannins, flavonoids and phenols composition values ranges were 8.98% - 0.81%, 4.71% - 0.12% and 0.07% - 0.03% respectively while ascorbic acid content ranged from 3.16mg/100g to 2.84mg/100g.
This study involved the investigation of the nutritional composition of Vitellaria paradoxa seed by determining its proximate, vitamin and mineral content, and physicochemical properties of seed oil of Vitellaria paradoxa. The results of the proximate composition analysis showed that the seed contained 2.842% moisture, 4.183% ash, 49.155% fat, 9.30% protein, 12.678% fibre and 21.842% carbohydrate and its energy content was 2348.149kJ/100g. The mineral composition analysis showed that the seed contained 61.70ppm K, 52.00ppm Fe, 30.20ppm Ca, 6.24 ppm Mg, 5.10ppm Na, 0.80ppm Cu, 0.72 ppm Zn, 0.30 ppm Mn, 0.04 ppm Ni, 0.02 ppm Pb,0.0l ppm Cd, and 0.01 ppm Co while its vitamins A and C contents were 15012.09 µg/mg and 189.53 mg/g respectively. The result obtained for physicochemical properties of the seed oil showed 0.895g/cm3 specific gravity, 1.464 refractive index, 4.297mg/g acid value, 68.018mg/g iodine value, 224.4mg/g saponification value and 2.160 mg/g free fatty acid.
