Following is additional information for each choice. “Unit System” – Chose either US or Metric. • If “US” is selected, units of measure will be in US gallons per minute, feet, degrees Fahrenheit and horsepower. • If “Metric” is selected, units of measure will be in m3/hr, meters, degrees Celsius and kW. “Frequency” – Chose either 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The “Nominal Speed” will automatically change based on the frequency selection. “Nominal speed” – At least one of the two speeds shown must be selected. Both speeds are automatically selected. To refine the selection results, deselect one of the speeds by clicking on the “checkmark”. Most customers choose to operate Finish Thompson centrifugal pumps at the higher speed (2900 or 3500 rpm). This typically allows a smaller, less expensive pump to be used for the application. • If 50 Hz is selected, the speeds shown will be 2900 rpm and 1450 rpm. • If 60 Hz is selected, the speeds shown will be 3500 rpm and 1750 rpm. “Flow” – Enter the required flow for the application. The flow must fall within the range displayed. • If “US” was selected for the unit system, enter the flow in gpm (gallons per minute). The selector will automatically round tenths of a gallon to the next higher or lower value (for example, 10.6 gpm will be automatically rounded up to 11 gpm).

Often in applications with keypads, the condition can occur where a key can be held or stuck down, causing excess current consumption and reducing the battery life of a battery-operated product. This application report shows a solution. The keypad interface in this report, based on the MSP430, draws 0.1 µA while waiting for a key press, is completely interrupt driven, requiring no polling, and consumes a maximum of only 2 µA at 3 V if all keys are pressed and held simultaneously. The keypad interface described in this report (shown schematically in Figure 1) is based on the MSP430F12x device. Its beneficial features include: • 100 nA typical current consumption while waiting for key press • 2 µA maximum current consumption if all keys are held simultaneously • No polling required • No crystal required • Minimum external components • Suitable for any MSP430 device. The rows of the keypad are connected to port pins P3.0 – P3.3. The columns are connected to pins P1.0 – P1.2. Connecting the rows to port 3 pins, instead of port 1 pins, leaves the other port 1 pins for other interrupt sources, because the P1 pins have interrupt capability, but the P3 pins do not. In normal mode, while the circuit is awaiting a key press (wait-for-press mode), the rows are driven high, and the P1.x column pins are configured as inputs, with interrupts enabled and set to interrupt on a rising edge. The 4.7 MΩ pulldown resistors hold the inputs low in this state. The MSP430 is then put into low-power mode 4, where the MSP430 current consumption is about 100 nA. This state is maintained indefinitely until a key is pressed. The circuit is completely interrupt-driven with no need for polling.

Microsoft Excel 2010: How-To Add Drop-Down Lists and Data Validation to Excel 2010 Spreadsheets In Excel 2010, a handy feature is the Data Validation feature which allows you to create a Drop-Down list for populating fields. This works great for when several folks that work on a file together, by using the drop down lists you can keep the data normalized by saving a lot of time during and at the end of the process. You can add Data Validation drop down lists to entire columns or you can add the drop down to individual cells. This tutorial explains how to add to entire columns. Step 1 – Select which cells to add validation to Click a column to highlight the entire column. Let's consider the following example: One has measured the force necessary to extend a spring from its rest (equilibrium position) for various extensions. The goal is to find the spring constant. The theory (Hook's Law) predicts the linear dependence between the force and the change of the length of the spring: F = -kx To find the spring constant k, one needs to plot the negative force -F as a function of x and find the straight-line fit. The slope of that line is equal to the spring constant k. Finding the best straight-line fit could be quite time consuming if done with a calculator. Using Microsoft Excel program significantly simplifies the whole procedure. Follow the steps shown below to make a graph and then draw a straight line that fits your data. A. Start Microsoft Excel 2010 (or Excel 2007). B. Enter your data into Excel spreadsheet. C. Highlight all cells containing data. In our example, the first column (A) contains values of x, whereas the second column (B) contains values of force -F: D. From the "Insert" tab select "Charts - Scatter".
