Well, indoor gardening is easy and fun. T he artic air this winter has been persistent. Even the toughest gardeners have hung up their trowels. At the onset of February, although the shortest month, avid gardeners like myself will all agree time seems to crawl and the final day of this gray and cold month never quickly comes. For me, February’s impact is softened by time spent with indoor plants. In tending my houseplants, there is always something going on to keep my spirits up: my violets are in bloom while the snow and ice falls against their sunny windowsill; my Meyer lemon has fruit ripening right after the holidays; or my Phalaenopsis orchid spikes and blooms in spite of the frigid scene outside. If it were not for these gems of inspiration, these great indoor garden friends, my winters would most likely be best spent far away from the gray February beast.

Evaluating the manageability of web browsers controls

The proliferation of smartphones has introduced new challenges in secure web browsing. These devices often have limited resources, as well as small size, which limits the security ‘arsenal’ of their users. Such lack of protection controls, however, does not seem to hinder users from browsing the web via smartphones. On the contrary, according to a recent report, by the year 2017 smartphone mobile data traffic will increase 81%, comparing to 2012 [11]. Average users are not familiar with the details of security controls used while browsing the web. For instance, a user may understand that SSL offers a level of protection to online transactions. It is rather unlikely, though, that she is aware of the relevant security details and threats she is exposed to. Nowadays, users come across to different threats while browsing the web. These range from traditional client-side attacks (e.g. Cross-Site-Scripting) to zero-day exploits that target Java plugins1. Contrary to what one would expect, CISCO [10] reports that browser malware are not only present in ‘bad’ webpages (e.g. ones hosting pirated software, etc.), but also in benign ones (e.g. social media sites, etc.). The latter may unwittingly serve malware embedded in their active content, typically after a server compromise or with the inclusion of malicious advertisements. Objective: To present the case of a 17-year-old male soccer goalkeeper who sustained maxillofacial fractures and dental trauma after being struck in the face by an opponent’s knee. Background: Because of the nature of the sport and a lack of protective headgear, soccer players are at risk for sustaining maxillofacial trauma. Facial injuries can complicate the routine management of on-field medical emergencies often encountered by certified athletic trainers. The appropriate management of maxillofacial trauma on the playing field may help to reduce both the immediate and long-term morbidity and mortality associated with these injuries. Differential Diagnosis: Lacerated superior labial artery, lacerated upper lip, dental fractures, maxillofacial fractures, orbital blowout fracture, closed head injury, cervical spine injury, cerebrovascular accident. Treatment: The athlete received immediate on-field medical care and was subsequently transported to the hospital, where diagnostic testing was performed and further treatment was provided.
