Rebuilding the suspension is no small task. In this case, the rebuild consisted of an H&R Cup Kit and the replacement of two control arms with new Prothane polyeurethane bushings. The Cup Kit, bushings, and a "suspension refresh" kit were purchased from Potterman's. The control arms were purchased from Adirondack Auto Brokers. Here is a photo of the Cup Kit: There are some things to know about doing the suspension before you go jumping into it. Most cars are equipped with some type of MacPherson strut suspension, and according to Chassis Engineering by Herb Adams, "...strut-type front suspensions became popular on production cars in the late 1970's because they offered a simple and inexpensive configuration that doesn't take up much space. It is particularly well-suited to front-wheel-drive production cars, because it allows room for the front drive axle to pass through the front hub."(40) Adams then goes on to explain that a MacPherson strut setup is not used very often on true race cars because 1) It does not allow for wide tires and wheels without rolling fenders or increasing the scrub radius 2) There is little camber gain possible 3) Strut suspensions require large cowl heights, so it limits the lowering height of a low-profile race car Given that the Mk III VW was originally built with economy rather than performance in mind, it is only logical that the engineers in Wolfsburg opted for a MacPherson strut front suspension and a trailing arm rear suspension on these vehicles. These cars were also originally designed for comfort, so the suspensions were tuned to the soft side. This excerpt from the 1993-1999 Jetta/Golf/Cabrio Bentley Service Manual explains much of the logic behind Mk III suspension design: "Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, GTI, and Cabrio models are equipped with a strut-type independent front suspension and a torsion-type rear axle beam with trailing arms. The front suspension struts are integral spring and shock absorber units, while the rear suspension has separate shocks mounted inside the coil springs. 1997-98 SUSPENSION Volkswagen - Front 1997-98: Cabrio, Golf, GTI, Jetta, Passat 1998: Beetle DESCRIPTION FWD suspension system is equipped with MacPherson struts. Steering knuckles are supported by lower control arms and vertically mounted strut assemblies. See Figs. 1 and 2. Base suspension is used on 4-cylinder models, plus suspension is used on VR6 models. LOWER CONTROL ARM & BALL JOINT Removal (Beetle) 1) Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Remove noise insulation panel and left noise insulation. Remove intake air duct between charge air cooler and turbocharger if available. Remove right side insulation. 2) Mark installation position of ball joint bolts on control arm. Remove bolts. 3) Install Hub Puller (3283) and press drive axle out. Ensure that there is sufficient clearance available when pressing axle out. Pull wheel bearing housing together with ball joint out from control arm. Swing wheel together with suspension strut outward and support. 4) Install Ball Joint Puller (3287-A) and press out ball joint. If control arm is to be removed disconnect drive axle from transmission drive flange. Pull wheel bearing housing with ball joint out from control arm. Remove control arm. 5) For vehicles with automatic transmission, push engine/transmission assembly forward using lever. Remove hex bolt and remove control arm. Installation To installation, reverse removal procedure. Removal (Except Beetle & 1998 Passat) 1) Raise and support vehicle. Remove ball joint-to-steering knuckle bolts. Separate ball joint from housing. Leave control arm hanging in mounts at subframe. NOTE: On vehicles with automatic transmission, engine may have to be lifted slightly to gain access to pivot bolts. 2) If ball joint is to removed, remove ball joint bolts. Remove ball joint. If control arm is to be removed from vehicle, remove stabilizer bar link rod nut, washers, and bushings. Remove pivot bolt and "U" bracket housing inner pivot pin. Slide out control arm.

Hardware Installation VW MKIV Jetta/Golf ES803 Step 1 Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels. Step 2 Hold the hex on the caliper slide pin with a 15mm open end as you loosen the caliper bolts with a 13mm box wrench or socket. Service Tip: The hex head on the caliper pin is narrow, and some standard thickness wrenches will not fit between the boss on the caliper and the caliper frame. Try to select a thin wrench that will fit into the opening. (Cyclists with a 15mm cone wrench will find a new use for an old tool here.) Remove both upper and lower caliper bolts. Step 3 Slide the caliper straight off the pads. Service Tip: Calipers can stick against the pads due to accumulations of dirt and rust. Removing the caliper may require a bit of wiggling and prying with large common screwdriver or pry bar. Step 4 Remove the brake pads from the caliper carrier. Service Tip: Inspect the pads for uneven or excessive wear, or deep grooving commonly caused by a scored rotor surface or rust deposits. The pads on our car have plenty of life left; the friction material surfaces are flat and parallel with the steel backers. If yours need to be replaced, ECS Tuning stocks a large inventory of stock and performance brake pads. Step 5 Using an M8 hex driver and long-handled wrench or breaker bar for added leverage, loosen and remove the two bolts holding the caliper carrier to the trailing arm. Step 6 • Pull both caliper pins out of the carrier. Check them for wear or rust. • Clean the pins and lube them with fresh, hi-temp caliper grease. Check the rubber boots on the pins for cracks, tearing, or heathardening. Replace the boots, if needed. Salah satu upaya untuk melengkapi sumber belajar yang relevan dan bermakna guna meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP), Direktorat Pembinaan SMP mengembangkan buku pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas VII, kelas VIII, dan kelas IX. Buku pelajaran ini disusun berdasarkan Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional No. 22 Tahun 2006 Tentang Standar Isi, No. 23 Tahun 2006 tentang Standar Kompetensi Lulusan, dan berdasarkan kriteria buku pelajaran yang dikembangkan oleh Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan. Buku pelajaran ini merupakan penyempurnaan dari bahan ajar kontekstual yang telah dikembangkan Direktorat Pembinaan SMP dalam kaitannya dengan kegiatan proyek peningkatan mutu SMP. Bahan ajar tersebut telah diujicobakan ke sejumlah SMP di provinsi Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Timur, Sulawesi Tengah, Sulawesi Tenggara, Sulawesi Utara, dan Gorontalo sejak tahun 2001. Penyempurnaan bahan ajar menjadi buku pelajaran yang bernuansa pendekatan kontekstual dilakukan oleh para pakar dari beberapa perguruan tinggi, guru, dan instruktur yang berpengalaman di bidangnya. Validasi oleh para pakar dan praktisi serta uji coba empiris ke siswa SMP telah dilakukan guna meningkatkan kesesuaian dan keterbacaan buku pelajaran ini. Buku pelajaran Bahasa Inggris ini telah dinilai oleh Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan, dan dinyatakan memenuhi syarat untuk digunakan sebagai buku pelajaran di SMP. Sekolah diharapkan dapat menggunakan buku pelajaran ini dengan sebaik-baiknya sehingga dapat meningkatkan efektivitas dan kebermaknaan pembelajaran. Pada akhirnya, para siswa diharapkan dapat menguasai semua Standar Kompetensi dan Kompetensi Dasar secara lebih mendalam, luas serta bermakna, kemudian dapat mengaplikasikannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Saran perbaikan untuk penyempurnaan buku pelajaran ini sangat diharapkan. Buku pelajaran merupakan salah satu sumber belajar yang memberikan andil cukup besar dalam upaya memperluas kesempatan memperoleh pendidikan dan meningkatkan mutu proses dan hasil pembelajaran (B.P. Sitepu, 2005: 114). Kebutuhan akan buku pelajaran semakin terasa ketika jumlah dan mutu guru yang tersedia belum memadai. Di tempat-tempat tertentu, masih banyak guru yang mengandalkan buku pelajaran sebagai satu-satunya sumber belajar dan pembelajaran. Guru mempersiapkan, melaksanakan, dan mengevaluasi pembelajaran dengan mengacu sepenuhnya pada isi buku pelajaran. Siswa juga menggunakan buku pelajaran di sekolah dan di rumah sebagai sumber belajar utama. Kebijakan tiap sekolah dalam memberikan buku pelajaran secara gratis untuk setiap siswa didasarkan pada prinsip perlakuan yang sama dan kesetaraan kesempatan. Karena alasan inilah, buku pelajaran secara luas digunakan dan bisa dipastikan akan terus digunakan sampai tahun-tahun mendatang. Hal ini terlihat dari keberterimaan yang relatif luas terhadap buku pelajaran sebagai sumber belajar yang berharga, khususnya bagi mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS). Oleh karena itu, penting bagi guru untuk mulai belajar bagaimana menggunakan buku-buku ini dengan efektif. Tulisan ini mencoba menawarkan cara menggunakan buku pelajaran IPS dengan efektif kepada para guru di sekolah dasar sehingga sedapat mungkin mampu memenuhi tuntutan kurikulum serta dapat meningkatkan mutu proses dan hasil pembelajaran. Ich möchte mit dem heutigen Tag, nach 7 ½ Jahren ÖGV-Präsidentschaft, meinen Rücktritt bekanntgeben. Diese Zeit war für mich ein sehr schöner Lebensabschnitt und es hat mir großen Spaß gemacht. Golf ist - wie Ihr alle wisst - ein wunderbarer Sport und ich war in dieser Zeit ehrenamtlich über 600 Tage mit größtem Engagement für den ÖGV unterwegs. Ich möchte für die gute Zusammenarbeit „DANKE“ sagen und bin froh, dass wir gemeinsam viel erreicht haben. Auf die großartigen Erfolge des österreichischen Golfsports, speziell in der letzten Zeit, bin ich besonders stolz. Die Unterstützung unserer Sportler und Sportlerinnen durch den ÖGV hat sicher viel dazu beigetragen und ich bin überzeugt, dass es in dieser Richtung positiv weitergehen wird. Die Austrian Juniors Golf Tour war immer schon ein Highlight für unsere Jugendlichen. Der Schülercup, der mittlerweile das fünfte Jahr stattfindet, hat großartigen Anklang bei den Kindern gefunden. Die Aktion „Hello Juniors“ ist ein weiterer Meilenstein in der Nachwuchsarbeit des ÖGV. Im Rahmen der „Hello Juniors - Schule goes golf“-Kampagne hat es Edi Ballnik 2013 geschafft, bereits über 4.000 Volksschüler für den Golfsport zu begeistern. Die Betreuung der Clubs war ebenfalls ein Schwerpunkt meiner Tätigkeit als ÖGVPräsident. Meine unzähligen Fahrten zu Euren Golfclubs waren für mich immer eine schöne Aufgabe. Es hat mir stets viel Freude bereitet zu sehen, mit welchem Enthusiasmus Ihr Euch für den Golfsport eingesetzt und Eure Mitglieder motiviert habt.
