A study was conducted at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, to determine water uptake at 6 and 12 hour intervals, and germination characteristics of scarified and non scarified seeds of castor bean accessions in 2008 and 2009. Two hundred seeds were selected from each accession: one hundred seeds were scarified mechanically by caruncle removal using knife (seed lot 1), one hundred seeds were not scarified (seed lot 2). Each seed lot was immersed in 10ml of distilled water contained in 9cm-diameter petridish. Thereafter, seed lots were weighed at every 6 h starting from 0 to 24 h, and at every 12 h up to 108 h.

Living as an expatriate in a foreign country is certainly not easy. There are different things to confront, some of which could show to be stumbling blocks, like bureaucracy, cultural differences, and local habits and, in particular, communicating. Even though some Indonesian workers understand and speak Basic English, it would be better to learn and understand Bahasa Indonesia, particularly when you deal with locals in your work on a daily basis. Begin with basic phrases, like “selamat pagi” (good morning), “terima kasih” (thank you), “maaf” (sorry) and “tolong” (please help), and how to request for directions and about prices, etc. Here are some habits to master the Indonesian language. Self-taught Bahasa Indonesia is believed to be an easy language to learn, and you can just learn it by yourself. You can purchase a dictionary or do-it-yourself books at major bookstores in Jakarta, like Gramedia or Kinokuniya.
ICT is a fast developing technology; its application typically involves the introduction or enhancement of systems or technology to meet a particular business need. An example of such application is the e-Payment system, a subset of e-Government that enables us to perform financial transactions electronically. A survey was conducted in the federal government of Nigeria’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to examine the gains and challenges of the e-Payment system commenced on January 1st, 2009. Non-parametric tests were used to establish the rank orders of gains from e-Payment and the challenges, based on median values for each variable, as well as the number of valid answers. The result revealed the most appreciated gains and most encountered challenges of the new system. The t-Test result for the gains of e-Payment shows that the mean number of positive response was significantly different (P < 0.01) from that of the negative response for each of the gains. Also, the t-Test
Field experiments were conducted at two locations in 2009 and 2010 in Southern Guinea savanna (Makurdi) and Rainforest belts (Obubra) of Nigeria to assess the effects of amending soil with moringa leaf and fertiplus manures on phosphorus availability and yield of Garden egg. A factorial combination of two varieties of Garden egg (Solanum aethiopicumm Gilo and Solanum aethiopicum –kumba) and two organic manure sources (Moringa leaf and Fertiplus) were applied at the rates of 0,5,10 and 20 t ha-1 moringa leaf and 1, 2 and 3 t ha-1 fertiplus. These 14 treatments combinations were laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in three replications. All rates of the manures increased available soil P levels from low to medium 30 days after incorporation and up to 140 days in both locations although the values were higher in Makurdi than Obubra. All the manure rates significantly (P<0.05) increased the yield and yield components of the garden egg varieties over the control.

The Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) created this report as an educational tool for policy makers and other interested parties. The statistics presented in this report represent data reported to DFI from all payday lending licensees for calendar year 2011. NOTE: DFI is not able to track data from unlicensed Payday Lenders. What is a Payday Loan? Payday loan companies offer small, short-term, high interest loans secured by a post-dated check. The consumer’s post-dated check is written for the loan amount plus a fee. The check is held by the lender for the loan period (term). At the end of the term, the lender may deposit the check or the customer may reclaim the check with cash. The legislature passed Washington’s first payday lending laws in 1995 under the Check Cashers & Sellers Act (RCW 31.45). DFI is the regulator of payday lenders in Washington State. What is Allowed in Washington State? Maximum Loan Term: Maximum Loan Amount: Maximum Fee: 45 days $700 15% on the first $500 10% above $500 Example: A loan for $500 + $75 fee = $575 A loan for $700 + $95 fee = $795 Payment Plans and Installment Plans Borrowers are entitled to an installment loan at any time prior to default. Borrowers do not have to pay a fee for the installment plan and have from 90 to 180 days (depending on the original loan amount) to repay the loan in a series of installments. The number of payday lending locations decreased 30% from year-end 2009 to year-end 2010, and decreased another 40% from year-end 2010 to year-end 2011. Overall, the number of payday lending locations has decreased 65% since its height in 2006.
