This paper proposes the artificial neural network based controller for speed control of a separately excited DC motor. The Artificial Neural Network controller allows controlling both type of systems i.e. linear and non-linear system by training the network. So it is a novel approach to study and a broad research area.
BACKGROUND: Stroke is an important cause of disability and death. Recently several studies have claimed that RDW is a good predictor of outcome in stroke. As RDW is a complete blood count (CBC) parameter that is routinely determined in clinical laboratories, these studies important implications in patient management in developing countries. The present study was taken up to find out if RDW can be used as an inexpensive biomarker for stroke. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A case-control study involving 52 test subjects and 54 matched controls was conducted. RDW values were determined in test and control groups, compared and statistically analysed. RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS: Significantly higher mean values for RDW (p <0.001) are observed in stroke patients compared to reference population. RDW values higher than 13.0 are associated with several fold increase in the risk of stroke (odds ratio 4.1; p value <0.006); but, the level of RDW does not show a linear relationship

Lateral epicondylalgia [LE] is most common cause of elbow pain attributed to abnormalities in the extensor carpi radialis and extensor digitorum communis [EDC]. Quantifying the linear displacement using musculoskeletal ultrasound and the Motion Tracking Analysis Program [MTAP] may be useful in characterizing the abnormalities found in elbows with LE. This study investigated the reliability of the operators [i.e. sonologist and sonographer] and the reader [i.e. physiotherapist] in procuring and analyzing ultrasound videos using MTAP.

A theoretical study has been done to investigate the significant enhancement of the photorefractive and photovoltaic effects of a new co-doped potassium niobate crystal (KNbO3: Fe: Ag) as compared to the result obtained for singly doped potassium niobate crystals. The co-doped Ag impurity enters the K site, rather than the typical Nb site, thus changing the local field in the lattice. It is believed that Fe perturbed by the Ag in the K site is responsible for an enhancement of the linear absorption and photocurrent, as well as for the probable increase in the effective trap density.
