Title of Project: Give your project a working title, which may or may not become the title of your paper. 2 Statement of purpose: Explain what you hope your research will find or show. EECE 418 – Pre-proposal: The Interface on the LG Chocolate ...

I have chosen the interface of the LG Chocolate TG800, a popular last-generation GSM cellular phone. The LG Chocolate was originally marketed as a mid-level slide-up camera phone for the style-conscientious user. The TG800 is a slide phone; the phone is unlocked and ready to receive input when the top section of the cell phone is slid upwards, revealing a standard T9 keypad as indicated in the figure below. Figure 1: LG Chocolate TG800 Slide Phone The entire region surrounding and inside the silver box on the top of the phone acts as nine different buttons, all of which are touch-sensitive. On either side of the phone are two tactile buttons. The three interface problems I am addressing with the TG800 are: 1. User has no visual cues to suggest what the four short-cut arrows do. 2. The button which allows the user to access certain features during a call (such as to hold the call or mute) is immediately adjacent to the end-call button. 3. The buttons on one side of the phone allows for volume adjustments while the buttons on the other side of the phone allows the user to turn off the phone or hang up; it is easy to accidentally press the power button when we simply wish to adjust the volume. These problems will be explained in further detail in the next section.

Sehubungan dengan adanya tragedi Gempa Bumi dan tsunami di Kepulauan Mentawai Sumatera Barat pada tanggal 25 Oktober 2010. Perhimpunan Advokasi Anak Indonesia (PERAN INDONESIA) dan Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Indonesia (LKSI) mengirimkan team relawan dari Relawan Dokter, Karyawan, Mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik Universitas Indonesia dan Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam Universitas Satyagama Jakarta, untuk melaksanakan misi kemanusiaan dan Advokasi Penanganan Korban Bencana dengan menamakan Tim “Peduli Anda Untuk Solidaritas Bangsa” (Tim PASB). Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk dapat meringankan beban para korban akibat dari bencana gempa bumi tersebut dan melaksanakan advokasi penanganan korban. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan sejak tanggal 13 – 25 November 2010 Sebelum mengirimkan Tim relawan ke Kepulauan Mentawai, dilakukan beberapa pencarian informasi dan assessment tentang kondisi dan situasi wilayah tersebut serta kebutuhan pengungsi, baik dengan memanfaatkan informasi internet, media cetak, media elektronik, dan beberapa lembaga yang sudah terlebih dahulu melaksanakan misi kemanusiaan. Setelah hasil assessment didapat dan dikembangkan, maka memutuskan untuk melaksanakan misi kemanusiaan dengan mengirimkan relawan yang dikirim melalui Padang dan melanjutkan perjalanan ke Kecamatan Sikakap Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai melalui jalur laut dengan menempuh 12 (dua belas) jam perjalanan untuk membantu proses Tanggap Darurat yang sedang dilaksanakan.

And as more strict government regulations regarding power consumption appear, even traditional home and office appliances like LCD TVs, set top boxes (STBs) and multifunction printers (MFPs) are being scrutinized for ways to save power. To help ensure products are in compliance with the latest EnergyStar and European Commission Code of Conduct regulations, designers are seeking innovative ways to provide low-power modes of operation in a variety of product lines. This white paper examines design methods and practical advice for saving power using programmable logic devices (PLDs). The 1-Watt Plan is an energy saving proposal by the International Energy Agency (www.iea.org) to reduce standby power use in all appliances to just one watt. Standby power, also called vampire or phantom power, refers to the electricity consumed by many appliances when they are switched off or in standby mode. The typical power loss per appliance is low (from 1 to 25 W), but when multiplied by the billions of appliances in residential and commercial use, standby losses represent a significant fraction of total world electricity use.
