This concentration prepares students for transfer to the Rhode Island College Computer Science program. Requirements allow students to earn an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in Computer Programming at CCRI but also include courses required to meet requirements of the RIC Computer Science degree. Students paying full-time tuition at CCRI can take RIC courses for no additional cost. See page 27 regarding the inter-institutional agreement. Important: All students must obtain a grade of at least “C” in all computer course requirements and must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Note: Since RIC’s current registration policy does not allow for special consideration of CCRI students, each student is responsible for enrolling himself/herself during the RIC enrollment open period; since the RIC class size is limited, to avoid being shut out of a course, it is recommended that the students enroll in RIC courses as soon as enrollment opens; RIC courses are not usually offered in the evening or online. IMPORTANT — Many courses require: • Prerequisite: course must be completed successfully PRIOR to enrollment; • Corequisite: course must be taken at same time; • Testing: (ACCUPLACER or other placement test) helps determine course placement; See course descriptions at the back of the catalog for details. Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Scott Virgulak Scott Virgulak begins his second year as Rhode Island College's head baseball coach. He guided the Anchormen to a 21-18 overall record, the program's fourth straight 20-win campaign, and an 8-6 (third place tie) mark in the Little East Conference in his first season at the helm in 2010. He spent 2004-09 as an assistant coach under previous RIC boss Jay Grenier. During his time as an assistant, he primarily worked with the team's position players, while serving as the squad's third base coach during games. Off the field, he was instrumental in working with the team's recruiting efforts. Virgulak was an assistant coach with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) from 2006-09. The Gulls captured the 2009 NECBL Championship, with Virgulak serving as the head coach during the deciding game in the playoffs. Virgulak was an assistant coach for the 2009 NECBL All-Star squad that played Team USA. He also was an assistant coach during the 2004, '05 and '06 NECBL midsummer classics. Prior to joining the Gulls staff, Virgulak was an assistant coach with the North Adams Steeplecats and was promoted to head coach during the 2005 season, leading the club to its first and only playoff series victory. He played two seasons of baseball at RIC in 2000 and 2001. The North Kingstown, Rhode Island native played in 59 games, starting 58 of the them. He posted a .286 career batting average with 43 runs, 61 hits, 33 RBI, 16 doubles, five home runs, 92 total bases, 33 walks and one stolen base. He recorded a .432 slugging percentage, a .382 on-base percentage and a .938 fielding percentage for his career. As a junior in 2000, Virgulak had an outstanding season and was named First Team All-Little East Conference at third base. He batted .377 with 24 runs, 43 hits, 16 RBI, 10 doubles and two home runs. Prior to coming to RIC, Virgulak played two seasons for Grenier at the Community College of Rhode Island.

LAVRA and Locally based Track Racing Team, Momentum Cycling, http://www.momentumcycling.com/ invites Men, Women, Masters, Elites & Juniors to attend our Race Training Program at the LA Velodrome. This 9 week program will provide quality instruction with each session building on the previous session with the focus on only 1-2 racing disciplines per week. You will learn all the In's & Out's of each track racing discipline as we teach you the techniques and equipment requirements that you will need to compete in Time Trials, Sprints, Mass Start races, Team Events and more giving you the confidence you need to toe the line in almost any racing situation. We are excited to have the following members of Momentum Cycling’s Elite Track Team lending us their expertise throughout the series: Travis Smith, Adam Duvendeck & Jennie Reed. All 9 Race Training Sessions will be held at the LA Velodrome www.lavelodrome.org from 3:00-6:00PM on Saturday Oct 13, 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, & 17, Dec 1, 8, 15. You will need to bring your current racing license along with your own track bike, helmet, racing shoes, racing pedals and any additional equipment that you may need. Rental bikes will be available for Juniors only (at no charge). All participants must be certified by the velodrome director, Roger Young, prior to the first session. Nexgeneracers (NXG) give boys and girls an opportunity to learn about auto racing and have a “hands-on” experience in a supervised and controlled environment. We offer three class levels in our Lucas Oil/NXG Youth Motorsports Program scheduled from April to September. Most classes are conducted over the weekend. Each class serves up to 20 student participants in both on-track and classroom activities. Parents, family & friends are welcome and encouraged to attend as spectators on our competition Sundays. Class Levels Level 1 - Introduction to Motorsports: Provides an overview of the motorsports industry, racing terminology and go-kart driving instruction. Prerequisite: Proficient in 5th grade level math & English. For boys and girls 11-15 years of age. (No previous driving experience required.) Level 2 - Competitive Driving Techniques: Covers basic driving skills and go kart racing techniques. Tests individual performance and knowledge and includes racing competition. Prerequisite: Introduction to Motorsports course, or previous go kart driving experience and approval of Chief Instructor. For boys and girls 11-15 years of age. Level 3 – Advanced Performance Driving Class: Focuses on: vehicle dynamics, race driving skill development and auto racing competition knowledge. Driving exercises and competitive go kart racing are conducted. Prerequisite: Competitive Driving Techniques course and approval of Chief Instructor. For boys and girls 11-16 years of age.
