Raleigh - Urban Institute

Introduction It is almost three years since the official end of the Great Recession—the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Yet there are only limited signs of genuine labor market recovery. Employment remains well below its pre-recession 2007 peak even though employment has grown over the past five quarters at about the same rate as it grew following past recessions. The unemployment rate continues to exceed 8 percent, and many economists, including the Congressional Budget Office, predict it will remain above 8 percent for the next several years. The Federal Reserve recently forecast the unemployment rate at between 6.8 and 7.7 percent at the end of 2014. Despite this dreary national outlook, there is some cause for optimism. Between the fourth quarter of 2010 and fourth quarter of 2011, the US experienced a net total increase of 1.7 million jobs and forecasters project additional increases over the next few years. 1 Here we present an overview of employment trends for Raleigh. During the recession the national economy lost 8.4 million jobs. It has experienced slow growth since, but employment has not returned to pre-recession levels. Exhibit 1 presents actual and projected employment trends for the nation and Raleigh from 2007 to 2017. Exhibit 2 shows employment for industry sectors since the beginning of the recession and projected to 2017. Employment in 2007 is normed to 1.0 across industries allowing for easier comparisons of growth in employment across industries starting from this base year. The disproportionate size of some sectors means employment fluctuations for these sectors have a more significant impact on the overall local economy. To get a sense of these magnitudes, exhibit 3 displays the absolute number of jobs and the percentage change in employment by sectors during the Great Recession and the recent recovery period.

H1N1 (Swine) Flu Facts
by temum02 0 Comments favorite 19 Viewed Download 0 Times

Fact Sheet When to Seek Medical Help Most people get over the flu at home by getting plenty of bed rest, drinking lots of fluids, and taking pain relievers to reduce fever and ease body aches. However, there are good reasons to seek medical treatment, such as when symptoms are very severe and quickly worsen. In addition, some people can become extremely ill with swine flu and require hospitalization. Here are some guidelines to help you determine when to seek medical help. Stay Home Anyone who is sick should stay home. Sick children and teens should be kept home and not allowed to go to school, to the mall or other public places, or to visit friends. People who are only mildly ill and don’t have other medical problems should stay home and rest. Seek Emergency Medical Help If you or a child in your household becomes sick and exhibits any of these warning signs, seek emergency medical care immediately. For children: • fast breathing or trouble breathing • bluish skin color • not drinking enough fluids • not waking up or not interacting • being so irritable the child does not want to be held • fever with a rash • flu-like symptoms that improve but return with a fever and worse cough For adults: • difficulty breathing or shortness of breath • pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen • sudden dizziness • confusion © 2007 ToucanEd Inc. Date: 01/08/2008 Product Description: AMSOIL EaA728 Air Filter Subject: 7.3-liter Ford OEM Air Filter Box Design Constraints OBJECTIVE: Communicate a problem with the design of Ford air induction boxes on 7.3L-equipped diesel vehicles which leads to premature air filter restriction gauge warnings when using EaA728 Air Filters. ISSUES: The life expectancy of the EaA728 Air Filter is less than the specified duration due to issues with Ford original equipment manufacturer (OEM) filter housing design. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION: AMSOIL has documented problems with premature air restriction on EaA728 Air Filters installed on Ford vehicles equipped with 7.3L diesel engines. The problem appears via premature triggering of air filter restriction gauges. In some cases, the problem is severe enough to create performance issues, including lack of engine power. A typical non-turbo-equipped 7.3L diesel engine requires roughly 280 CFM air flow to comfortably perform without combustion starving issues, including lack of engine power. A turbo-equipped diesel engine requires 466 CFM air flow to avoid similar issues. Another way to predict air-flow-related performance issues is through a filter face velocity calculation. Donaldson Company Inc.(DCI), a wellrespected filter manufacturer, uses this calculation to measure the amount of air an engine requires for optimum fuel combustion. A lower value in the face velocity represents better performance. A face velocity of 7-10 is optimal for diesel-fueled engines, whether turbo-charged or not. A Ford 7.3L OEM filter was tested with this predictive calculation under both turbo and non-turbo condiSubmitted By: RH
