What You Should Know About Vehicle Warranties Vehicles sold in ...

What You Should Know About Vehicle Warranties Vehicles sold in the U.S. today are generally the highest quality and most reliable ever made. This is largely due to the work of consumer agencies and watchdog groups that have tested and reported on vehicles for the past 40 years or so. Auto manufacturers have gotten the message that they must build the best product possible, or consumers will go elsewhere. As a result of the high level of reliability, the car companies have discovered that they can offer warranties of longer duration and higher mileage. And since the automotive marketplace is so competitive, nearly all manufacturers have excellent warranty coverage. That being said, there are some things to keep in mind when comparing car warranty coverage – namely what’s covered, and what’s not. What does a typical warranty cover? First, let’s define what a warranty is. Generally speaking, a warranty is an agreement made by the manufacturer to the buyer of a vehicle that, if anything covered should fail within a certain period of time, they’ll fix it at no cost to the buyer. Many manufacturers offer “bumper to bumper” warranties on the new vehicles they sell. These warranties would cover the vehicle from defects and failures for a specified period of time and up to a certain mileage limit, whichever comes first. What they don’t cover however, is parts that are subject to wear, such as wiper blades, hoses and belts. Your car might also have a drivetrain warranty. These warranties cover the engine, transmission, drive axels, basically anything that makes the car move. Tires and batteries are sometimes covered under their own warranty, and are often prorated. The emissions equipment on every new car is covered under warranty by federal mandate for a period of at least 2 years. So far we’ve been talking about manufacturer warranties on a new car; but what about other types of warranties? For many people, the security of knowing that their car is fully protected by warranty means purchasing extended coverage. Extended warranties can be bought from the dealership when a new car is sold, or from any number of third-party companies who offer them. These third-party issuers can vary widely in their protection plans and their responsiveness to claims, so do your research. But what if your car’s warranty has expired and you still want to be covered? Plenty of companies offer warranties for used cars as well. Even if you’ve just bought a used car, you can usually find a company who is willing to offer a warranty service for at least the drivetrain components. Of course this depends on a lot of factors, including the make, year and mileage of the car; and the warranty is likely not going to be cheap. Although not technically a warranty, many car companies offer roadside assistance plans when they sell a new car. These plans can be very helpful if your car ever breaks down, and can also rescue you if you’ve run out of gas or locked your keys in the car. Finally, as we stated in the outset, car manufacturers offer some pretty good warranties on the new cars they sell. Some companies even offer unlimited mileage warranties on at least some of their covered items, like rust and corrosion. The warranty plan offered by a manufacturer is an important factor, and should be part of any good consumer’s car-buying research...

RWA 300 Driveway Alert - Platt Electric Supply

Troubleshooting and Frequently Asked Questions RWA-300 VER. 03/29/07 © 2007 The transmitter lights up with motion, but the receiver does not react The transmitter must be taught to the base unit, as explained in step 3 in the Set-Up guide. If the unit was taught, the most common reason for not working is that the base unit has been turned off, or muted. If the green Power light is not lit or is flashing, press the MUTE button on the top of the base unit to wake it up. If the green Power light is illuminated, look at the two small white switches next to the LEARN button. The #1 dipswitch should be down, towards the circuit board. If it is UP, the unit has been muted. If the Base Unit signals when you press the LEARN button, it is not muted. To assure best range Keep both antennas VERTICAL and keeps the PIR Transmitter antenna away from trees and metal objects. It can also help to locate the Base Unit near a window with the clearest possible sight of the PIR Transmitter. The less objects between devices, the longer the range. The transmitter is detecting motion only part of the time The cars are either passing to close to the sensor, or it is looking over the top of the car. For best results, adjust the sensor to look at a 45-60 degree angle, have it about the height of the car’s hot motor, and set it back far enough so the cars do not pass with in 8 feet of the sensor. The Reporter system is giving False Alarms The transmitter will detect any motion near it, such as branches moving, or will see the background move if it is moving in a breeze. Any lights shining on it, direct sun, or reflected light (like snow glare),or hot objects can confuse the sensor or blind it, giving false signals. It is also possible that a little condensation has built-up on the sensor and letting it sit inside for a few hours, open to the air, without the batteries, it should correct itself. The sensor can also be set to be less sensitive, by changing the two dipswitches, next to the test button, on the circuit board inside the transmitter. The REPORTER is shipped pre-set to its highest level of sensitivity, with the switches DOWN, towards the circuit board. If the sensor is detecting motion outside its normal range, setting it to be less sensitive can correct for this. There is a short beep every ten minutes The Base Unit is indicating that it has a low 9-volt battery. Open the Base Unit, by pulling the top and bottom halves apart. Replace the 9V battery with a fresh one or operate it without a battery. How do I clear and Reset the Base Unit’s Memory Press and hold the Learn button, on the receiver, for fifteen seconds. It will give a triple-beep when it has cleared its memory and you can re-teach transmitters to it. If a transmitter signals, while the Learn button is depressed, the must be repeated. If you have installation or operation questions, please see above, or you can receive free technical assistance or warranty service, by email at techsupp@nwlink.com or call 888.679.7994 TuesdayFriday 8-5 PST...
