Merico (Rico) Fantigrossi retired from the United States Marine Corps in November of 1991, after serving his country honorably in both war and peace for over twenty-six years. Upon his retirement, he returned to his hometown-Rochester, New York. While waiting for an opportunity in law enforcement, he took a position as an automobile salesman for Gabrielle Ford, in Churchville, New York, a suburb of Rochester. What began as a temporary job, soon developed into a permanent and very successful career. Rico consistently rose to the top of the sales team in sales, gross per unit, customer satisfaction, and both repeat and referral business. After eighteen successful months as a salesman, he moved rapidly in the dealership, from deal closer and assistant manager to desk manager and back-up F&I manager.

INTERIOR DESIGN – MYTHS VS. FACTS - ASID

Since Puerto Rico first passed legislation to license interior designers in the late 1970’s many “myths” have developed about the purpose of interior design legislation. ASID believes that laws, regulation and legislation that allow designers who demonstrate advanced education and code knowledge to open new practice opportunities should be supported. Designers who become registered, certified or licensed do not limit others from practicing but open new areas to the entire profession. This legal process is no different from state regulations for architects, engineers, accountants or the hundreds of other professions that are subject to professional licensure regulation. MYTHS AND FACTS Myth: Interior design legislation puts non-registered interior designers out of business. Fact: Interior design laws supported by ASID do not put anyone out of business, and designers may continue to perform current services regardless of any legislation. ASID-supported interior design legislation allows designers to expand into areas (e.g., stamping, signing and submitting plans for permitting) that they were barred from previously. Myth: Interior design in a purely aesthetic talent that deals with colors, fabrics, finishes and furniture. There are no technical aspects of interior design. Fact: Interior design is an evolving profession includes many technical aspects. Individuals working in residential settings must comply with state and local building codes. Individuals working in more heavily regulated spaces such as office, hospitality, health, education and retail must comply with building and energy codes, indoor air quality and the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, among other health and safety issues. Myth: There is no need to hire interior designers because architects do the same work.

Abney & Associates Technology updates: Bumps in rollout of cellphone alerts in Washington

TACOMA — A system set up to send emergency alerts to thousands of cellphone users warning them of natural disasters and missing children has experienced problems during its rollout in Washington state, the News Tribune reported today. The mobile notification system has helped authorities find at least two missing children as a result of Amber Alerts sent to cellphones in the state. But it also mistakenly warned people in the lowlands of Western Washington of a blizzard that was happening in the Cascade Mountains, and it alerted others in Western Washington of potential flash floods thousands of miles away, in Puerto Rico.

Stripped Oil Drain Plug Repair

Yes, it happened to me. During one of my regular maintenance days in the garage – adjusting the valves, synchronizing the carbs, changing the oil and filter – I decided to use a new crush washer on the oil drain plug. You’re supposed to replace them once in a while, right? I guess I tried to crush it a little too much and this was the result. As you can see, the threads are now full of aluminum from the oil pan. The plug itself looks OK, the bolt is harder than the oil pan. But the oil pan threads have been stripped so that is where the repair must take place. There are several ways to repair stripped threads. One is to use something similar to a Fix-aThread Plug Saver kit. This kit repairs the threads for a spark plug which is the same size (M14 x 1.25). A Heli-Coil is often used to repair stripped threads. But that repair is generally for permanent fasteners and may not be ideal for bolts that will be removed and replaced often. A TIME-SERT is a similar repair but is more suitable for bolts that are likely to be inserted and extracted periodically. For my repair I chose a quick and simple procedure using an oversized, self-tapping drain plug. Here are a couple of examples: This is a straight self-tapping oversized drain bolt with a nylon washer. You can find it in most any auto parts store for $3 or less. My local Pep Boys and AutoZone carry these under the Dorman brand name. This is a “piggyback” drain bolt and can usually be found right alongside the single bolt (above) for about the same price. I chose this bolt so that I could leave the big plug in the pan and use the piggyback bolt to drain my oil. This would cause less wear and tear on the oil pan itself.
