Description • Accuracy: - ±0.25 (typical) from -40°C to +125°C - ±0.5°C (maximum) from -20°C to 100°C - ±1°C (maximum) from -40°C to +125°C • User-Selectable Measurement Resolution: - +0.5°C, +0.25°C, +0.125°C, +0.0625°C • User-Programmable Temperature Limits: - Temperature Window Limit - Critical Temperature Limit • User-Programmable Temperature Alert Output • Operating Voltage Range: 2.7V to 5.5V • Operating Current: 200 µA (typical) • Shutdown Current: 0.1 µA (typical) • 2-wire Interface: I2C™/SMBus Compatible • Available Packages: 2x3 DFN-8, MSOP-8 Microchip Technology Inc.’s MCP9808 digital temperature sensor converts temperatures between -20°C and +100°C to a digital word with ±0.25°C/±0.5°C (typical/maximum) accuracy. The MCP9808 comes with user-programmable registers that provide flexibility for temperature sensing applications. The registers allow user-selectable settings such as Shutdown or Low-Power modes and the specification of temperature Alert window limits and critical output limits. When the temperature changes beyond the specified boundary limits, the MCP9808 outputs an Alert signal. The user has the option of setting the Alert output signal polarity as an active-low or activehigh comparator output for thermostat operation, or as a temperature Alert interrupt output for microprocessorbased systems. The Alert output can also be configured as a critical temperature output only. This sensor has an industry standard 400 kHz, 2-wire, SMBus/I2C compatible serial interface, allowing up to eight or sixteen sensors to be controlled with a single serial bus (see Table 3-2 for available Address codes). These features make the MCP9808 ideal for sophisticated, multi-zone, temperature-monitoring applications.

These appear when a problem is detected in a monitored system. The code for a failed system is stored in the PCM memory in the first drive cycle. This code is called the pending code. If the problem is not found in a second drive cycle, the PCM judges that the system returned to normal or the problem was mistakenly detected, and deletes the pending code. If the problem is found in a second drive cycle too, the PCM judges that the system has failed, and the DTC is stored. OBD-II FREEZE FRAME DATA • This is the technical data which indicates the engine condition at the time of the first malfunction. This data will remain in the memory even if another emission-related DTC is stored, with the exception of Fuel system or Misfire DTCs. Once freeze frame data for Fuel system or Misfire DTC is stored, it will overwrite any previous data and the freeze frame will not be overwritten again. OBD-II ON-BOARD SYSTEM READINESS TEST • This shows the OBD-II systems operating status. If any monitor function is incomplete, WDS or equivalent will identify which monitor function has not been completed. The Fuel system, Misfire and CCM are continuous monitoring-type functions. The HO2S, Thermostat, AIR system, Catalyst and EVAP system will be monitored under drive cycles. The OBD-II diagnostic system is initialized by performing the DTC cancellation procedure or disconnecting the negative battery cable. OBD-II DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULT • The results from the technical data of the intermittent monitor system are used to determine whether the system is normal or not. They also display the system thresholds and diagnostic results. The intermittent monitor system monitors the HO2S, Thermostat, AIR system, Catalyst and EVAP system. OBD-II READ/CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC TEST RESULT • This retrieves all stored DTCs in the PCM and clears the on-board readiness test results, freeze frame data, DTC, diagnostic monitoring test results and pending trouble code. OBD-II PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID) ACCESS • The PID mode allows access to certain data values, analog and digital inputs and outputs, calculated values and system status information. Since the PID values for output devices are the PCM internal data values, inspect each device to identify which output devices are malfunctioning. ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST DTC Reading Procedure 1. Perform the necessary vehicle preparation and visual inspection. 2. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the vehicle DLC-2 16-pin connector located in the driver compartment.

Focus on engine cooling – DuPont has cool solutions to hot engines In the quest for better fuel economy and cleaner emissions, the global auto industry is pushing designers, engineers and materials suppliers to come up with continuous improvements in engine efficiency, and new ways to take weight out of the vehicle. Replacement of metals by plastics is an important part of the solution. However, there are trade offs, particularly in engines. To achieve both greater efficiency and weight savings, engines are downsizing — but they are also getting hotter, particularly with the growth of turbo charging. As a result, engine cooling is becoming more important than ever. Modern engines are cooled by complex air and liquid cooling systems that manage the flow of high temperature air, gases and coolants, and house critical thermal management components. Plastics, many supplied by DuPont, are playing an increasingly important role in key cooling system parts including thermostat and heater housings, outlet and inlet ports, valves, cross-overs, coolant pumps, water jacket spacers, charged air coolers (CAC) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers.

Rough in framing opening following the recommended dimensions (Section A: Framing). 2. Allow 8” of service cable for connecting to the junction box on the fireplace. Remove the outer jacket and strip the individual conductors ½” from the end. 3. Loosen the screw securing junction box cover and remove the cover. 4. Remove knockouts if necessary or use the provided cable clamp. 5. Place unit in position in the opening, level with shims if necessary and attach unit to frame using nailing flanges provided. 6. Unit is factory wired for 208/240 volt power supply. If 120 volt operation is required, slide the switch and reconfigure the wiring as covered in section C wiring. Wires L1, L2, N & G are attached to the rear of the junction box cable clamp for easy access. 7. Wire a dedicated, properly fused circuit with a 20amp rating for the appropriate voltage (120, 208/240). 8. Make wall mounted thermostat connections as outlined in Section C: Wiring. 9.
