Counteroffer Acceptance: Road to Career Ruin by Paul Hawkinson Matthew Henry, the 17th century writer said, “Many a dangerous temptation comes to us in fine gay colors that are but skin deep.” The same can be said for counteroffers, those magnetic enticements designed to lure you back into the nest after you've decided it's time to fly away. The litany of horror stories I've come across in my years as an executive recruiter, consultant and publisher, provides a litmus test that clearly indicates counteroffers should never be accepted . . . EVER! I define a counteroffer simply as an inducement from your current employer to get you to stay after you've announced your intention to take another job. We're not talking about those instances when you receive an offer but don't tell your boss. Nor are we discussing offers that you never intended to take, yet tell your employer about anyway as a “”they-want-me-but-I'mwith-you” ploy. These are merely astute positioning tactics you may choose to use to reinforce your worth by letting your boss know you have other options. Mention of a true offer, however, carries an actual threat to quit. Interviews with employers who make counteroffers, and employees who accept them, have shown that as tempting as they may be, acceptance may cause career suicide. During the past 20 years, I've seen only isolated incidents in which an accepted counteroffer has benefited the employee. Consider the problem in its proper perspective. What really goes through a boss's mind when someone quits?

In 2007, the Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) emerged after the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) aligned itself with Al-Qaeda. This development captured the world’s attention and led several scholars and policymakers to ask the question: Why did this merger take place and what does it say about the motivations of GSPC? This research investigates three hypotheses: (1) This merger is merely an ideological one without operational implications; (2) this merger is ideological, operational, and logistical; or (3) this merger is merely a rebranding of a failing organization that needed to survive and, therefore, is not a genuine threat to the United States and its European allies. Exploring the evolution of Algerian Islamism, from the rise of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) and the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) to the GSPC and AQIM, this study concludes that hypothesis 3 is the best explanation of the merger between GSPC and Al-Qaeda. Open the bonnet and grasp both sides of the engine cover, then sharply pull upwards to remove it from the rubber grommets underneath. 2. Remove the breather assembly as shown below, by pushing the black retaining clip in on the gray fitting at the front, the yellow retainer in on the black fitting at the back, and simply pulling the rubber hose off the cam cover. Move the gearbox breather out of the way, and undo the now accessible 10mm bolt on the top of the noise generator. This 10mm nut needs to be undone 4. Remove the end of the noise pipe from the firewall by squeezing the tabs top and bottom and wiggling the pipe out. 5. You can now remove the lower 10mm bolt holding the noise generator to the side of the engine using a ratchet spanner from the front or ¼” drive ratchet from the back, and remove the noise generator from the car. Lower 10mm bolt 6. Using the supplied silicon hose, cut a short length (50-75mm) from the end, then fit this and the remainder of the hose to the tee piece as shown. The Dension Gateway Lite BT is available in specific versions for different vehicle types, therefore the exact operation and installation may be different in each case. Warning! Do not trap the cables, or leave them in a position where they may become trapped after refitting the head unit. Ensure the device is correctly fitted before running the cable. Then, reconnect the Dension supplied main radio connector to the rear of the head unit. January 2014 Delta Says No to Phone Calls During Flights The jury is still out on the Federal Communications Commission's decision to lift the ban on allowing passengers to make phone calls during flights. According to a poll conducted by CNET, 80 percent of the 2,051 individuals who responded say no to the question "Do you want in‐flight cell phone calls?" It seems as though Delta has paid attention to responses like this to the recent news of the possible lift of the ban. In an official memo to Delta employees, CEO Richard Anderson said "Delta will not allow cellular calls or internet‐based voice communications on‐board Delta or Delta Connection flights." Anderson also mentioned their customer research and direct feedback from frequent flyers tells them allowing voice calls during flights would ruin travelers' flight experiences. Delta is a company on the progressive front when it comes to bettering the flying experience for its passengers. This notion is backed up by the company's quick response to the FAA allowing electronic devices to be used during all phases of flights (from gate to gate). Delta was the first airline to file their plan with the FAA. Pre‐Check Application Process Launched by TSA and Customs and Border Protection agency announces Global Entry Program for International Travelers in the U.S. On Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013, The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) launched a public‐facing "Pre‐Check" airport screening program enrollment process. Since the Tuesday announcement, travelers in the Indianapolis area are able to apply and complete background interviews at the application center at Indianapolis International Airport (IND). The TSA plans to open additional application centers in the New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles areas. The overall plan for the application centers is for the TSA to open 300 across the United States.
